THE ENVELOPE PROGRAM
Welcome to the ENVELOPE program. This program will detect
the address block included at the head of a business letter
and will print it on an envelope. Since the character
formatting systems often differ between word processors, you
can set ENVELOPE to work with the particular word processor
you are using. As you receive it, the program is set for
word processors that produce text in pure ASCII format, as is
frequently the case. Other word processor choices such as
Word Perfect (C) or Microsoft Word (C) are available and will
remain in effect for subsequent use until changed.
The program can be run by typing "env" and following by
pressing ENTER. First time users should read the more
detailed instructions and set-up information obtained by
selecting Option 4 in the Main Menu. This will bring up a
second menu from which you can obtain help, or select a
default drive, envelope size, or word processor. You can
also record your return address for optional printing on the
envelope.
You can print an envelope address directly from the command
line by following "env" with the filename assigned to your
letter and then pressing ENTER. If you wish to include
your return address in the upper left corner of the
envelope, add a space and a "1" before pressing ENTER.
Adding a "2" instead of a 1 will print the envelope without
your return address. A "3" will print a single label.
Examples: (following each entry with ENTER)
env Loads the Envelope program and
brings up the Main Menu for the
selection of Options an letter file
name.
env filename Brings up the Main Menu for Option
selection, but the file is known.
env filename 1 Prints the letter file address with
Option No.1 (include return address)
env filename 2 Prints the letter file address with
Option No.2, (no return address).
env filename 3 Prints a label with the letter
address.
Many word processors permit one to temporarily exit to DOS
and run a program. This is an ideal application for
ENVELOPE. Using Word Perfect (C) for example, you can
first print and save your letter, then insert your envelope
in the printer, tap the code to exit to DOS, type "env
filename 1", and press ENTER. The address will be printed,
(also in this example with the return address), and you can
return to the word processor by typing "Exit".
The ENVELOPE Program is not coyrighted and may be copied,
distributed freely, and may be placed on electronic bulletin
boards. If, after trying the program, you find it useful, a
small contribution to the author, not over $10, would
encourage continued production of public domain software.
